A Comfortable Stay with Thoughtful Touches
First Impressions & Location

The location is one of those that makes travel easy. It’s less than a 10-minute walk from the train station, and yes, that includes crossing the river, which adds to the charm a bit. Once you’re there, everything in Kufstein feels accessible on foot. As luck would have it, our train from Munich arrived and we crossed the river just as the once daily organ music was playing from the fortress. Amazing! But the location is easy to find up a street and everything in Kufstein is relatively close by.
Arte Hotel Kufstein was a great base for our two-night stay in this colorful, quaint town.
The Room

We stayed in a queen room at the very end of the hallway, which I always appreciate. It was quiet, a little more private, and minimal foot traffic passing by. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and well laid out. The bathroom was a great size (always a win in Europe), and everything felt fresh and maintained. The standout for me was the view. Looking out over the town was already nice, but on our last morning, I opened the window to see fresh snow sitting on the rooftops of the neighboring buildings. One of those simple travel moments that sticks with you.

A small design quirk: the TV was positioned at the foot of the bed, which felt a bit awkward, but honestly not a dealbreaker.
Other details that stood out:
- Fast, reliable WiFi (important if you’re planning or working while traveling)
- Turn-down service with little gummy candies. Such a fun, unexpected touch
- They had a mini bar. Prices were as expected for a hotel mini bar. (We didn’t partake.)

Breakfast & Common Spaces
Breakfast was included with our rate, and both mornings it was definitely busy.
The selection leaned more continental:
- Breads and pastries
- Meats and cheeses
- Yogurts and lighter options
I don’t eat eggs, so I can’t speak to the hot offerings, but overall there was plenty to eat. That said, I wouldn’t have minded seeing a few more hot options. The dining space itself is worth mentioning. It doubles as a restaurant and wine bar, and it has a really inviting, cozy feel. We didn’t end up going back in the evening, but it’s the kind of place you easily could. One small note: the American music playing in the morning felt a bit loud for the vibe. Not a huge issue, just something I noticed and would have preferred more traditional music.
Staff & Overall Experience
The staff were consistently friendly and helpful . Everything was relatively smooth—check-in, breakfast flow, general questions. The hotel is also pet-friendly (didn’t apply to us since we live in the States, but great for European visitors).
The Kufstein Card: A Nice Added Perk
One of the best surprises of staying here was the Kufstein Card, which came included with our reservation. If you’re not familiar, it gives you access to a handful of local experiences and transportation perks, including:
- Free admission to the Kufstein Fortress
- Access to the fortress funicular (which is honestly part of the fun)
- Selected local public transport
- Discounts on regional attractions and activities
We used it to visit the fortress, and riding the funicular up the hill was one of those unexpectedly fun travel moments. The views alone are worth it.

Final Thoughts
Kufstein may be small, but that’s part of its appeal. It’s easy, relaxed, and scenic. This is a hotel that does a lot of things right:
- Clean, comfortable rooms. This is really important to me as I want clean and something that doesn’t have a bedspread that looks like it came from the ’80s.
- Great location
- Thoughtful extras (hello, gummy candies and Kufstein Card)
- Inviting common spaces
Cost-wise, this one wasn’t at the lower end of the scale, nor was it at the upper end. I booked through Orbitz paying what translated to about $205 USD a night and then another $16.28 in city taxes for the two nights that was paid upon check-in.
If you’re passing through or even considering spending a night or two in Kufstein, this is a stay I’d absolutely recommend. It’s not over-the-top luxury; it’s just a really solid, well-executed experience in a place that might surprise you.
Also note that this is part of the Arte Hotel chain which has other locations in Vienna, Salzburg, Krems and Linz. I liked the vibe, I definitely would check out their other locations.
